Ruth and Geoff Varcoe

Dear Clients and Friends of Penmellyn Equine Vets –

With Ruth Varcoe’s retirement an era has come to an end, we want to thank her for over 30 years of loyal service and wish her and her husband Geoffrey good health and happiness in the future.

Our Equine Team has evolved into a much more focused operation by the employment of Jenny Fanning and Julie Elkins who are two highly skilled and experienced equine vets.

Jenny with her Certificate in Equine Internal Medicine has introduced new diagnostic and treatment procedures while Julie has added a vast experience in Equine Orthopaedics to the practice. While we all will continue to cover all aspects of first opinion and emergency practice, my areas of special interest will continue to cover horse breeding and dentistry.

Francesco, Jenny, Julie & Hannes : The Penmellyn Vets 100 % Equine Team – here & ready to help!

For the month of November and December we will employ an experienced equine locum vet by the name of Francesco Franzini and hope to successfully recruit a new member to the team by beginning of 2018.

Many of our clients have benefited from our close relationship with Bristol University and B & W and while we aim to strengthen these bonds we are in the process of recruiting another equine vet with a strong orthopaedic background.

We hope you have had a successful competition season and to help you fine tune your horse for next year we have a special winter offer for a limited period of time.

· Discussion of previous competition history and possible points of concern.

· A thorough clinical examination similar to a 2 stage vetting with particular emphasis on dental, back and limb examination.

· A full Haematology and Biochemistry, highlighting any abnormalities in regards to blood cells or muscle / organ damage.

· You will receive a written summary of findings which will either confirm that your horse is in good health or recommend the necessary remedial steps.

The Equine Performance Evaluation Pack will be £99 incl. VAT before 10% Settlement Discount and would make the perfect Christmas present for yourself, your horse, partner, relative or friend.

It is often a combination of little abnormalities rather than one big issue that holds you and your horse back in competition and finding and addressing these little niggles can make all the difference. £99 might sound a lot at first sight but is less than a new saddle, bridle or a new horse.

Based on the model of modern human sports medicine we want to help you avoid repeat micro injuries and low grade infections as a consequence of under or over training.

It is a well-established fact that what is too much exercise for one athlete is not enough for another and the art of training is to ride around a problem rather than keep searching for the perfect horse.

We are very fortunate to have the best Equine Facilities in Cornwall and as a team of 100% equine vets we want to provide you in the future with the best possible service based on consistency and continuity.

On behalf of the Equine Team
