It can be really tempting just to leave our horses rugged up at the moment… but you REALLY need to check up on what’s happening underneath on a regular basis – ideally, daily.
Is the rug rubbing?
Do they have early rain scald?
Are they gaining or losing weight?
Do they have any parasites (typically lice at this time of year)?
Are there any wounds hidden by rug and/or mud?
Some horses suffer from a dust allergy – Equine Asthma (which used to be called COPD, RAO, or “Heaves”)
Did you know that 90% of colics are “medical” ie caused by a malfunction of the gut that doesn’t need surgery to fix?
With the summer holidays upon us, how many of you are getting out and about, travelling around with your horses or ponies?
